“you cannot base a system on presuming the ‘politicians will act well or be good people.’ they never will.”
Ah, I think there was a time we had a better chance - not huge - but at least, better. This was a time when people policed themselves from within. They believed in God, in the afterlife, and that one should aspire to faith, family, morals, community. Of course we did not always live up to it, and oft did poorly, but it was the bullseye (actually, the real bullseye is a triple twenty), and effort was made with varying degrees of success. Community and family standards were subtly omnipresent in our minds (Ie: I don’t want to be the first in my family to get a divorce).
But now we are in a post-Christian era where there are fewer standards (I don’t want to be the first in my family to have 3 divorces). Many no longer police from within. Seals trained by TV, movies, social media, msm. What was unthinkable 60 years is now mainstream acceptable. And given our direction, what is unthinkable now will be mainstream 60 yrs from now (or 10 - or 2).
In the process we lost sight of who we are: Creatures fearfully and wonderfully made. With precious inalienable, sovereign rights. With freedom to live out our lives and allotted years without being manipulated, bullied, and lied to by those who have sought power and wealth and do not honour God. When will we have our Howard Beale / Greta moment, rising up, joining forces: HOW DARE YOU! We’re mad as hell and we are not going to take it anymore!
