It’s anti-semitism. It’s hard to understand here in Canada but when you consider the history of the Jews in the Middle East you understand that the bigotry against Jews is similar to Jim Crow bigotry in the American south. This is a people who have been considered “less than” and abused for hundreds of years. So the outrage in the Middle East against Israel has a lot to do with the belief that they’re inferior, therefore the fact that Israel is a powerful and successful state is unbearable to others in the Middle East. The other piece is the ideology that seems to be currently fashionable in which Israel is framed as a “colonizer” and “white” which is of course ridiculous. It’s significant that it’s young people who are easily manipulated and essentially ignorant who are the ones pushing this piece. They just don’t know. Also. I think that liberals who believe that living in a place to which you are not indigenous makes you a colonizer realize, at some level and by that “logic”, that they are themselves colonizers. This is uncomfortable. And they have no plans to leave! So it’s an easy way to virtue signal and expiate their own guilt to point to Israel and claim that they’re colonizing oppressors. It’s cheap, in my view. I think also that supporting these attacks is easy. And safe! Supporting Israel is difficult. It may get dangerous. Why? Because you are dealing with an evil terrorist group that adores murder and death. It’s astonishing how people who would not last one minute in an Islamic State support a group whose aim is to establish a worldwide Islamic caliphate. This is long enough; I will stop here. Meghan, thank you for your journalism.
