I can't speak for what healthcare is like overall in the USA, but I have been able to get access to good healthcare in the Washington, DC area where I worked for two years (within the last five years) and also in California for the last twenty years (as good or better healthcare than the care I received in Vancouver, BC in the 1990s).
Most larger companies and any government agency offer good healthcare and dental plans. In California, for many on low income, there are various plans that offer healthcare. In the larger cities in California, there are free clinics. In California, most hospitals will not turn away an uninsured patient if they need emergency care. Yes, it is a tiered system, but it is not true that the majority of Americans have worse healthcare than Canadians. The uninsured probably have worse healthcare than Canadians.
