I stand corrected for my over-generalization. I should have said “overwhelmingly” or “substantially”Christian. Of course there was a pre-existing Jewish population there, perhaps some remnant “pagans” for a while too and no doubt small groups of others to fill out the picture.

Since Islam began in the 7th century, it follows that there were no Muslims in the Holy Land before then.
