Thank you for being contrarian. It's vital that we all remember that Beijing is not the 1.3 billion people of Mainland China. Nor does it represent the many other Chinese throughout the world. We cannot ever forget this.

What's happening in Xinjiang is beyond morally reprehensible, it is a crime against humanity.

I like to tell the following completey true story as often as I can. I held a stranger in my arms as he cried. A grown man with perfect Chinese weaping like a baby. No one can ever do enough to correct for genocide, but each of must try.

Here is the story,

Three years ago I made a new friend. My Uber driver to the airport was from Xinjiang. He fled 3 years ago with his son to the United States. After he left China, his wife was imprisoned. His daughter is in a forced re-education camp. He has no idea where his son-in-law is, he has disappeared.

My friend cannot return home; his wife cannot leave China because the government will not give her a passport. The Chinese government says that if he and his son return, then his wife will be given travel documents. However, the few friends he has left with freedom tell him under no circumstances may he return to China. If he returns, he and his son will be arrested. He compared what his family is going through to the Holocaust. I told him my family is Jewish and his comparison is correct.

At the airport we hugged each other and cried. I told him to tell his story to anyone who will listen. I tell his story here, and I will continue to speak up in every venue available to me about the treatment of the Uighur people. For the sake of the peace of this world, and the safety of not just Uighurs, but all the people of China we must speak up, speak out, and not let these crimes against humanity perpetuate.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good people do nothing.
