The United States hasn't just said things, beyond the cotton ban, there is a ban on almost all goods from Xinjiang. U.S. customs and border protection seized millions of human hair from Xinjiang just last year. There are also sanctions on party officials as high as the Politburo and U.S. citizens are suggested to not travel to Mainland China. There were multiple acts passed by the U.S. Congress. These aren't just words. But the United States cannot act alone, which is why the actions this week from the EU, UK, and Canada while mostly symbolic have great meaning. If Beijing doesn't stop the genocide then yes, it may lose hundreds of billions in direct investment as Western companies comply with labor laws and pull their supply chains from the PRC.
