This is heavy to say, but we might be witnessing a natural phenomenon, a process by which nature brings a society back into line with nature's objectives. Of course this process would be triggered by a social that ventures outside nature's parameters, failing in its basic natural functions. What's causing this could be the same thing that's causing the drop off in birth rates.
