Part of that is because for most topics there are only a few articles with original content, and then hundreds and thousands of articles, blog posts, tweets, etc., that quote the original ones. If you click through to the listings on the first 10-20 pages you'll see what I mean.
For most political topics, recency is the top criteria -- nobody who searches "Roe v. Wade overturned" cares what, say, Anita Bryant thought about it in 1978, so the search engines prioritize what somebody said yesterday or last week, and then all the other search results are pundits and activists and journalists (but I repeat myself) endlessly quoting and rehashing those 2-3 most recent things.
