You are the first outside of FATCA/FBAR forums that I have encountered that have known of it before I have mentioned it. I have met one former student who works in HR for a Japanese auto maker who know of the time limit in the US that triggers reporting of their employees they send there and that hard been it. I have had my head bitten off repeatedly over FATCA/FBAR/CBT, masks, lock downs etc. Otherwise, my experience seems to be the same as yours, zero convinced. Yes, the wealth tax would be worse, but it will happen. So too with this world wide tax regime happen. They will happen for the same reason all the rest of this happened. Too few care to look into it and those who do are simply ignored or actively fought against until what they were warning about becomes reality and it is too late to do anything about it. It is surreal to see my non US coworkers complaining and worrying about their accounts being closed back home a few years after they angrily shouted my warnings down. Oh well.
