Yet there are other factors at work that no one can explain. In the nursing facility where my daughter works, one of her patients is a 63 year old 400 lb woman who basically spends her life in bed due to her weight. Surprisingly, she doesn't have diabetes and she never (yet) got covid. Go figure....
