Completely nuts. The top players are on long term contracts with numbers like $100+ million not too uncommon. So they get a cardiac vaccine injury so that they can't play for the rest of their career and the team is stuck paying out the contract. This happened with a player called Yashin who was signed in 2000 (!) to close to $100 million for 10 years and he only played 2 years effectively before injury. The team then bought out the contract after his being sidelined for a number of years but then has to pay 2/3 of the remaining amount up front (depends on contract wording obviously).
