I don't think they're bad at all. I was just emphasizing that full-service traditional banks not subject to shareholder whimsies do still exist.

When I lived in NY I used a credit union that had been founded to serve the formerly veterans' housing development I lived in. Unfortunately it kept being gobbled up by bigger credit unions so was no longer micro-local. But I got no complaints about the model.
