Just a reminder this is a very old fight, not a very new one. The control of literacy has been the goal of every totalitarian force everywhere, and the original totalitarian forces were religious hierarchies. "You can't pray in the vernacular! God won't listen!"
Yeah, God forbid you should be able to read them words other guys invented and turned into scary stories about what happens when you disobey often ridiculous and contradictory rules.
After the invention of the printing press there was no looking back, no possible effective suppression of knowledge. AI is Gutenberg's daughter and his printing press was the child of them scratchy thingies that first made marks on hard surfaces.
