Erm, did you not notice that the author of the piece is one of the two (barely tolerated) NYT pet conservatives? This is NOT the NYT "coming around" to rationality or admitting error. This is the NYT throwing their vacuous vaca to the progressive piranhas. I'm not going there to check, but I imagine Stephens is getting seriously dragged in the comments.
