Last year, pre-covid, I was at a lecture at Brown U given by a China political science professor and several Uygher x-pats. Part of the discussion was focused on the CCP long term plans for Xinjiang which included water rights out of the Himalayas and explained the incredible bad luck the Xinjiang Uyghers experienced by finding themselves stranded in China and cut off from their clansmen in the "stans".
