I would not think the long, painful demise of the Qing Dynasty through the mid 19th to 20th century would give current PRC global planners great confidence for greater global (or domestic,) success in the 21st century.. China's top down, rigid, long term planning system will not provide the PRC the flexibility their "new socialist model" has been promising.
