If by “isolationism” you mean “independent thinking” and “self-sufficiency” then I fail to see how that’s a bad thing. It’s true that no man is an island, but it’s also true that social ills grow exponentially with population density. I live in a rural area where people don’t lock their doors. When I lived in NYC and its metastasis that would have been a mistake at best. I still help my neighbor round up his pigs when they get out. My other neighbor is quick to bring his tractor over when I need that kind of help.
