OK-LISTEN UP folks. 1. Normal mature red cells do NOT have a nucleus, therefore no DNA with hidden RNA. 2. Most donated blood products are leukofiltered in that most of the donor's White Blood Cells (nucleated) are filtered out (not 100%), but resulting Red Blood Cell products have very low WBC cells left. 3. Yes, you can do an autologous (self) or allogeneic (family/friend) donation which will sit on a separate shelf with different labeling until needed, BUT each of these donations need a doctor's request and costs the donor/patient for the extra handling charges. A much easier fix is to ask your doctor to order blood products that are IRRADIATED, which prevents the donor's remaining WBCs from replicating in their new host. Of course, you can never plan for emergencies requiring blood, but you will have more to worry about than if the donor was vaccinated or not. I hope this helps assuage some fear out there. :)
