For some reason this post reminded me of my favorite comic strip from my childhood, Calvin and Hobbes. Any time Calvin is going through something miserable, his Dad tells him that he is building character: “Every time I’ve built character, I’ve regretted it!”. Or in Bluey, “I don’t want a life lesson; I just want ice cream!”
