The moves in Hong Kong did discredit the One Country Two Systems model even further, but it is not as if that ever had much appeal in Taiwan in the first place.

Much of the consolidation around Taiwanese identity and re-investment in defence does not stem from what has happened in Hong Kong per se, but from both the increasingly threatening posture of a rising China and from natural generational change in Taiwan as democratisation deepens.
