Reading about the Gulf Sultanates, I came across the phrase "no representation without taxation." In other words, since the governments there could print all the money they wanted by pumping oil or gas out of the ground, they didn't have to tax people or give them a voice in government. It's an interesting argument.
Of course, last fiscal year the Federal Government covered I think about 50% of the budget with taxes; the rest was borrowed or printed into existence. They don't have to listen if we don't directly pay. Of course we all pay in inflation.
