I've been coming to the conclusion that a major obstacle to "awakening from the matrix" as Caitlin puts it, is that continuing to operate in society after awakening requires a certain ability to compartmentalize the matrix world from the real world. If you can't compartmentalize you risk going off the deep end, or else never waking up for fear of going off the deep end. If you can do it, then you can live in both worlds and switch between them.

But I wonder whether some people can do this and others can't?

It may be more complex than this though because I know some people who I always believed were already doing this, who can't seem to awaken to a lot of what's been going on lately.

Sometimes I think that much of our troubles stem from a general failure of imagination among the population. You should be able to imagine things like nuclear war, running out of food, and what happens if elections are controlled by unaccountable computer equipment, etc.
