By focusing on rehabilitation and restitution that does not include cruel and unusual punishment (which is horribly abundant in our "injustice system," which does no good. By recognizing that until one has walked a mile in another's shoes ... or there but for fortune ...

Societies are quick to judge and punish. They are quick to assume guilt rather than innocence. Individual humans are more caring than when they become the group or mob.

One can always apply love and kindness. It is the most positive, win-win response.
