Castro was cruel to his people and drove his country into the ground with Soviet support. I personally knew political prisoners who were in Soviet prisons (they have since passed). They said the Cuban prisons were the cruelest of all. Back in the 70s and 80s The Readers Digest (which was a worthwhile read back when) used to do exposes on them regularly. The stories would make you lose sleep. He was a monster.
