I've never heard that there was that sort of calculation in Washington's appointment of Jefferson. Unless you have sources for that, I think the simpler explanation is that they were all marching to the same drum during the revolution and it wasn't until peace time that their true differences fully emerged and Jefferson started throwing the country into riot
