I read Chernow on Washington and Meacham on Jefferson. I checked Chernow - not a hint of forcing; in fact, there was quite a lot of affection between them in the beginning. Back to my original thesis, recall that they had not seen each other for many years. Washington would not have known that Jefferson's proclivities were more for the French revolution...only how critical his work had been in shaping the ethos of the republican experiment.
