The role of ideology in this sort of thing is well illustrated by the situation here in the UK where for over a decade numerous groups of men in towns and cities all over the country felt them selves "untouchable" by the law as they preyed upon girls young women (and boys in fact) from the sort of "at risk" situations. The reason for this impunity? Because to actually take action might upset "community cohesion". Those that did raise this from politicians to police officers were effectively shut up. Yet eventually the truth became obvious and there followed years of cases of such gangs of Pakistani heritage men. Involving from the last estimate I saw from our Ministry of Justice 20,000 victims half of whom were either in care (being looked after by Children's services) or on a child protection register(supposedly being monitored by our child protection services). My point being the way in which an ideology, in this case multiculturism and anti racism, directed Police and Childrens services in towns large and small to ignore perpetration. The media too, even now as cases are reported and the pictures and names tell the story, the common MO and obvious links with many other cases are studiously ignored in reports. There can be the "wrong sort" of perpetrators and victims who don't really count. The most extraordinary part of this story is that prominent feminists have been absolutely silent on this, even though in fact the cases make up the majority of out stats. on sexual assault and rape!
