Would also point out that Taiwan only became an existential threat to the CCP in the early/mid 90s when it proved that Chinese people could in fact thrive in a liberal democratic system. A stable, wealthy, secure, and ultimately democratic Taiwan is far more dangerous to the CCP than any military capability because it exposes the weakness of the CCP’s assertion that its rule is the only way China can be rejuvenated.
