I am a 1st generation American on my fathers side. He was born in Norway and used to talk about the early ways they governed. He was marginally Lutheran but deep down his pagan roots were showing. As a teen I got a copy of The Viking Age by Paul B. Du Chaillu. Mine was an original 1884 edition. A few years ago I bough a set printed in 1890 that had both volumes. What an amazing resource, and beautifully illustrated. I believe one can still buy the sets. (I found mine through an Amazon affiliate book seller). I always liked that concept of governance. I can see it as a possibility in the aftermath of the collapse we are in, particularly for parallel economy and reorganization of village life. I also liked the concept of the All-Pting where regional problems were settled the same way.
