Code Pink actually did care. The problem is that they were cynically tossed aside by Democrats once the desired party gained power. It was the same thing with Gitmo, which was portrayed as the worst human rights abuse ever, until Obama got into office and found out that it was far, far harder to shut down than he realized while on the campaign trail.
