The reason we’re not freaking out is because this appears to be a possible case of antigenic imprinting (OAS). Ie the immune system is trying to fight Omicron with the antibodies that have been created for a similar but different strain of SARS-CoV-2. It says nothing one way or the other about the body’s ability to fight other pathogens.
