I think we do want the government to take a role in slowing or stopping the influx of slop in the same way that we want somebody, ANYBODY, to save us from the onslaught of spam phone calls and texts and emails, and because corporations aren't interested in doing anything about it then hopefully the state can step in and do something helpful. The analogy between slop and degenerate art doesn't really add up to me because slop is so much closer to spam than it is art or speech. I don't think anyone would be hesitant to shut down any major sources of spam because of worries that it would lead to censorship. Slop and spam are not speech that can be agreed or disagreed with for any aesthetic or ideological or other reasons because it's just gibberish nonsense somebody is deciding to pollute the Internet with because it might trick or scam somebody else.
