Whether or not the desire for freedom is innate, I can't say. My impression is that the hand of the state in the workaday lives of ordinary Chinese is quite light. I do suspect that in the long-term, and depending on continuing progress of China's economy, prosperity will lead to leisure, and leisure conduces choice which conduces to a desire for freedom.
