Xi’s speech and the setting were remarkable. It was a formidable, bravura performance, with obvious symbolism and homage to Mao and Deng. Xi continues o articulate his vision of the Chinese Dream of rejuvenation, and he shows every indication of succeeding in this goal by 2049. Sadly, there are currently no leaders in ASEAN, Western Europe or America capable of giving such a speech in the context of such national unity.
