Thanks for the explanation. I think we were discussing separate matters and it's mostly my fault. I assumed you were imputing consciousness with the term hallucinating. And of course, I was ready to argue against AI consciousness. Had you put hallucinate in quotation marks, I would have understood that AI "hallucinates" in the same way that it "thinks".
But I agree with your cautions. I homeschooled (we actually unschool) eleven children and their appetite for knowledge is insatiable. We allowed them to follow their inclinations, but there was the ever present need of guardrails; not to hide or distort, but to prevent distortion.
