One reason that you can't convince many using data is that we have a population that is functionally innumerate. How many know enough calculus to understand that "two weeks to flatten the curve" does not change the area under the curve? The true believers need a personal or very close friend or family member damaged to be open to the conversation. Interestingly, the real working people (eg the Canadian truckers) see through the lies quite reliably, lacking proper indoctrination in the supremacy of experts. Personally, this has been observable from 5 decades ago, when I was doing real work in the summer between university sessions. The summer student is tolerated, but no respect is shown until competence is demonstrated, possibly by the 31st of August if adequate progress has occurred.
