We also survived pertussis, bicycling without helmets, and riding in smoke-filled cars without seatbelts (although my father did have seatbelts installed in our 1959 Plymouth station wagon in 1960. I am still not certain if they were for restraint or constraint!)

I have two theories on the peanuts:

1) A Republican affliction caused by Jimmy Carter's presidency;

2)An immune effect caused by some change which took place in the 1960's.
