In answer to your question, 1 August 1966 Charles Whitman climbed to the top of the UT Austin clock tower and began shooting people. Following the initial shock, citizens took deer rifles out of the trunks of their cars and began shooting back. This pinned him down long enough for three men to ascend the stairs to the top. A citizen took position at the door while two Austin cops went each way around the parapet. Whitman was engaged and killed by one of them.
Prior to the mid-90s, it was virtually unheard of, but something happened. The introduction of SSRIs into the school age population has been an absolute disaster. Nearly every school shooter, when we can get their medical records, has either taken or was taking SSRIs.
Now you will love this (facetious), with the introduction of the smart phone into our child population, the phenomena has grown even more.
Things active shootings have in common:
- Nearly 100% are conducted in gun-free zones.
- Every shooter that we can obtain medical records on have taken SSRIs at some point.
- Since roughly 2005, the shooters will advertise on social media, at least a month to a month and a half out, that they are going to do the act.
