Just my opinion: I agree there are echoes of M's braggadocio, but the most salient comparison would be to the totalitarianism described by Arendt: a vicious cycle of ideological leadership, cult of personality (popular and elite), a cadre of harpies stumbling over themselves to please the Leader, and the atrocities that follow all this.
I believe Xi's greatest weakness - and I think he would agree - is the knowledge of this cycle and of a democratic world which, for all its flaws, is designed to prevent it. Xi would like to stamp this knowledge out worldwide, but the lessons of WWII and the Holocaust are proving too strong. Like many here, I agree his power potential is tremendous, although his political monomania is impacting his forces' military efficiency. But I believe (and hope) that those working against him have the possibility of unseating him. The world needs a vital, healthy China, not another North Korea.
