To add to Sheryl's explanation, the eggs and precursor sperm cells for your children develop in the womb before they are born. When a baby is born, they have every single reproductive cell that they will ever have. Therefore if the mother is exposed to Spike – which bypasses the sacred boundaries meant to protect the reproductive cells and the future of your genetic line – if the mother fills herself with Spike, that has the molecular design to diffuse through those boundaries and target those cells. I don't know why we haven't seen thorough pathology reports yet from some of these babies who sadly didn't make it, to check what is going on in their reproductive cells.
