I have a pitie (mix). He's safe around children. Most adults, Pretty much safe around anything but bacon. He will steel your bacon. And your heart. We had Rotties before. Another dog that has a reputation based on what bad people do to some dogs. Much like humans, it's more about how they are raised and trained than breeding ;-).

Around our place it's not the dog you should beware of if you enter the property with evil intent ;-). We have neighbors with backhoes.
