I get a bit antagonistic about that: if you really mean "toxic" then there is no better word. What the we need is for literacy to be respected and stop the abuse of coopting words to mean the something other than what they really mean!

Some people get hostile when they encounter reasoned opposition. Some people claim they "can't handle conflict" when they really mean they can not tolerate anyone who has opinions different from their own. When they label anyone not abiding by their delusion "toxic" how about we correct them, and call what they're doing what it really is: bigotry.

Then there is toxic misinformation, the kind that leads people to do unhealthy things, or even can lead to decisions that cost them their lives. A common example I use is the advice given victims that if assaulted (raped) they should cooperate with the attacker. The truth is "cooperative" victims are far more likely to end up dead than those that resist. Yet an entire culture has grown up around the "submit" lies, suggesting this is more intellectually enlightened and that defending yourself is inhernelty wrong. That kids is a toxic culture, as in often fatal.
