We have a family member (my father's wife) who was a public school teacher, taught middle school her entire career. She has an uncanny ability to be completely oblivious to what is going on around her, not sure if this is a natural trait or acquired survival skill. Of course she's drunk the coolaid and believes in The One True Party, which seems at times a bit nuts. But having known a number of other retired PS school teachers, I have to say the "norm" makes her look like the model of sanity! Again, not sure the cause-effect relationship but I suspect total immersion in that environment is not good for mental health ;-)
