Certainly not about respect, and I see no evidence of kindness either.
I have a habit when I meet people: I strive to pronounce their name properly. It is a true sign of respect, not just for them, but for their parents who named them. I don't always succeed, but for six decades now I have yet to meet someone who has taken it as anything but respectful and kind (even when I fail spectacularly at the attempt).
That is what really has been lost. Respect and kindness.
