This speculation implicitly rests upon the presumption that reality/existence comprises two dimensions: a natural/material one comprising the universe and all of its constituents, and an immaterial/supernatural one, with the latter being the ("superior", "real", "true", "divine") origin of the former via "emanation", according to the ancient Greek philosopher, Plotinus, a Neo-Platonist.
In Philosophy, this is the concept of Metaphysical Dualism (for which we have Plato, and his idea of Forms, and innate ideas, to thank).
Matter, simply put, comprises congealed energy in the form of structured atoms and their sub-atomic particles. This matter/substance makes existents and all of their particular properties (their specific natures) possible, in all of their forms.
This fact underlies the axiom of Existence, which requires no proof, but upon which all proofs must rest. The logical corollary to this axiom is the axiom of Identity, which holds that existents possess specific material properties (natures) that make them the particular kinds of existents that they are, and distinguish them from other existents.
If there is no matter, there are no existents and their specific, distinguishing properties..
An immaterial/supernatural dimension and its constituents would comprise no matter, thus no means of existing. Claims of immaterial/supernatural means of existing or of supernatural beings (god, souls, angels, demons, etc.) are meaningless (non-cognitive) because they are unprovable due to the absence of what makes proof possible: matter. This also refutes a claim of supernatural "imprinting" of the idea of god into a human infant at conception.
Applying Occam's Razor, a monistic dimension of reality/existence is the only factually sound position in Metaphysics, the primary branch of Philosophy.
