As an American, it feels wrong or difficult (if not traitorous) to “support and stand with Russia” (or any other foreign country). The problem with that reservation, however, is that none of us in America ever specifically agreed to becoming citizens of The World Empire. Global capitalism and world domination is nowhere in our Constitution. American exceptionalism is not US law. Neoliberalism and neoconservatism are, by definition, opposed to the sovereignty of all nations, including the USA. As Caitlin frequently reminds us, the most belligerent and bloodthirsty nation on the planet is the USA, bar none. I can be an American, and I can simultaneously be anti-imperial. The two ideas are not mutually exclusive. The imperial deep state is not the US government. Fighting for the sovereignty of the USA—or, more importantly, for personal sovereignty—is to fight against the American (Western) Empire and to stand with other anti-imperialists of all nations, including, yes, those in Russia.
