I’m not so sure about that. I think most non Chinese speakers/readers get their news about China in English rather than in Chinese. It’s just a lot easier and faster than having to learn Chinese, which is difficult enough even if you have the chance to live in China, let alone if you don’t. This is especially true of “the global south “, and I think this is what the Chinese are betting on so they always try to soften the English translations to make the CCP appear to be some sort of global champion.
