I have heard of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade. I think they were volunteers from the USA that were in Spain on their own initiative to help fight Franco. In recent history there were people in the Ukraine in the Ghost Brigade fighting the side that Victoria Nuland was serving cookies to. I saw video of a man from Texas who was over there with his rifle participating. Didn’t George Orwell help out against Franco for a while? He had TB so he wasn’t really in shape to be very effective, but I think he wrote of chasing a fascist through the fog with his rifle on one occasion.
