    Bengaluru hotel room rates sky rocket to Rs 40,000 per night due to floods

    The room rents have doubled to Rs, 30,000- Rs 40,000 per night from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per night few days ago. The availability is likely to remain low as most guest have booked rooms for 10-15 since they expect that it may take that much time for their homes to be cleaned and refurbished once the flood water recedes.

    Many residents are not able to get rooms even at higher rates as most city hotels are fully booked for the next couple of days.
    Hotel room rates have doubled in flood-hit Bengaluru as desperate residents, whose houses have been inundated, scrambled for the rooms in the city hotels. According to the reports, the room rents in the India's IT capital have doubled to Rs, 30,000- Rs 40,000 per night from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 per night few days ago.

    "Our family of four shelled out Rs 42,000 to spend a night in a hotel on Old Airport Road after our luxurious gated community in Yemalur was flooded," ToI quoted Meena Girisaballa, CEO and founder of PurpleFront Technologies as saying.

    There are also reports that many residents were unable to get rooms even at higher rates as most city hotels are fully booked for the next couple of days.

    As per hotel owners, the rooms availability is likely to remain low as most guest have booked rooms for 10-15 since they expect that it may take that much time for their homes to be cleaned and refurbished once the flood water recedes.

    Like hotels, city hospitals are also witnessing a sudden surge in admissions as many traumatised senior citizens are being brought in with a spike in health issues like high blood pressure and sugar levels.

    In a more worrisome news for the city residents, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted continuous rainfall in Bengaluru for next five days. The agency has also issued a Yellow alert on Wednesday.

    Those living in ground floors in the rain-affected areas have been forced to shift to other places. The people, who are living on the first floor and above are forced to commute on tractors and boats for emergencies. The situation is likely to turn serious with more rainfall in the coming days. According to official statistics, 85 regions and 2,000 houses in Bengaluru have been inundated due to heavy rain.
