Butler senior forward/center
Jalen Thomas will miss the beginning of the 2022-23 season due to a pulmonary embolism.
Thomas is under the care of Butler's medical staff in addition to well-respected specialists in the Indianapolis area.
A full recovery is expected. The pulmonary embolism is being treated with medicine, and Thomas will maintain a non-contact regimen of skill work and conditioning while on the medication.
Thomas will continue to be evaluated and if he continues to progress as expected, he could return to action early in the BIG EAST portion of Butler's schedule.
Thomas signed with Butler and head coach Thad Matta in May, transferring to the Bulldogs from Georgia State. Thomas left Georgia State ranked No. 5 in program history in career blocks (116) despite only suiting up for the Panthers for three seasons. He has finished among the top five in the Sun Belt Conference in blocks in each of the last three seasons.
The Bulldogs open the 2022-23 season Saturday, Oct. 29, hosting Tiffin in an exhibition contest at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
